Al WendelAl Wendel has been with Indmar for over 28 years. He has done everything from building engines, running production, to "my current position in engineering." Though Al works in the engineering department, he often finds he is "needed for help on a little bit of everything. If someone needs something they usually come look me up. My typical day at work might involve designing new parts, improving on existing products, helping customer service with problems, especially with older products that some of the newer guys have never seen." "I also build most of the engines for boat shows that I attend a few times a year. I am responsible for bills of materials on all products and I support the service schools that we host for dealers and their technicians." "There have been lots of changes over the years, and our technology is the biggest one. We have been doing some neat stuff with the addition of our state-of-the-art emission laboratory in our engineering department. We can actually do a lot more with the engines before we have to get them into the boat." Looking back over the years Al adds: "The ETX Cat was a good project. It was tough to get together but I think we did a good job. We were the first one that actually did production engines that came with catalyst manifolds on them and that's good for the environment and good for you the boater. Going into the ski boat market was probably one of the best things we ever did." What does Al think about the Indmar customer? "I hope it's a wonderful experience people have in their boat with an Indmar Engine." Some of Al's hobbies are: "Playing music, riding my Harley-Davidson motorcycle and playing with my grand kids. I've been a musician most of my life, kind of in my blood. Everyone needs an outlet and that's mine." On his band "Double Down" which he has been playing with on and off since 1977 Al says: "We play old and new rock, country and blues at some of the clubs around Memphis. I've played with one of the guys in the band for almost 30 years." Al is a family man. He has three daughters, four grandchildren and has been married for 28 years.
